A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC Fight Night Rio Rancho as Diego Sanchez is in action against Michel Pereira.
The UFC announced the bout today through Twitter, but its placement on the card isn't known at this time.
Sanchez (29-12-0) has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Craig White and Mickey Gall. Sanchez was the middleweight winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 1, defeating Kenny Florian in the finals of the reality show. Sanchez has previously challenged for the UFC Lightweight Title, losing to then champion BJ Penn at UFC 107.
Pereira (23-10-0-2NC) has won just one of two in the UFC, with that lone win coming over Danny Roberts at UFC Fight Night Rochester. Pereira has challenged for the Heat Welterweight Championship, fighting Burenzorig Batmunkh to a no contest at Heat 43. Pereira has suffered ten losses as a professional MMA fighter and eight of them came by way of decision.
UFC Fight Night Rio Rancho takes place on Saturday, February 15 from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
