Dustin Poirier: I "Need To Be Compensated" For Tony Ferguson Fight

Dustin Poirier is stuck at the negotiation table.

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier and former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson could meet next month at UFC 254. Poirier seems open to fighting Ferguson at the event, but he wants to be properly compensated to fight the former interim lightweight champion.

“I’m in,” Poirier told ESPN . “... I just need to be compensated if they want this fight. Simple as that. I’m a prize fighter and the prize needs to be right.”

The two former interim champions could wind up being in the main event of UFC 254 if they agree to the bout, because ESPN reports that Poirier would replace Khabib Nurmagomedov if he pulled out of UFC 254 and Ferguson would replace Justin Gaethje if he pulls out of the fight.

UFC 254 takes place on Saturday, October 24 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
