Belal Muhammad returns to the Octagon next month at UFC Fight Night Utica, as he battles fellow prospect Niko Price.
Fans haven’t seen Muhammad in action since November, but that was due to an injury suffered during a bout against Tim Means.
“I was actually coming off of an injury, I hurt my meniscus in that fight. I tore my meniscus, I was probably out for like two months…with no training or anything. So it was just me getting back in and once I got back from injury, it was a good thing Sean Shelby got me an opponent real quick,” says Muhammad in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Muhammad is currently riding a three fight winning streak, which is the best run that he has been on since joining the UFC in 2016.
While Muhammad was out of action for quite some time, it doesn’t mean he wants to take a lot of time to beat Price this June.
“I honestly think I’m going to go in there and get a finish in this fight, I wanna go in there and make a statement. I wanna push myself and get a ranked opponent next, showing these guys at 170 that they got another contender on its way,” says Muhammad.
UFC Fight Night Utica takes place on Friday, June 1 from the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York with Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs on Fox Sports 1.
