Ryan Couture is back in the Bellator MMA cage at Bellator 201, facing lightweight slugger Saad Awad in the co-main event of the show.
The lightweight contender hasn’t been seen in action since Bellator 180, but injuries and waiting for opportunities from Bellator MMA is what kept the fighter from competing.
“I had a meniscus tear I had to get fixed up back in September, which is around the time we were talking about getting the next fight lined up. I think they just bumped me to the back of the line, so its taken them a while to find a spot for me. I’m excited to finally be getting back to it,” says Couture in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Couture is the son of UFC Fall Of Fame member and former two division champion Randy Couture, who also is seen in Ryan’s corner when he fights.
Awad and Couture are going to meet in a catchweight bout, which is set for 160 pounds, but Couture is already on target for the upcoming encounter.
“I’m right on track, I don’t thinks its going to be tough at all. I was nervous based on where I started, but I’ve been more disciplined with the diet than I have been in the past and everything’s falling in line at the right time,” says Couture.
Bellator 201 takes place on Friday, June 29 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California with Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Alejandra Lara headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
