Charles Byrd is back in action this September at UFC 228, facing Darren Stewart in a middleweight division clash.

The middleweight prospect made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night London against John Phillips and Byrd believes that it couldn’t have gone better at that event.

“I know, I mean that I can’t ask for anything better than that. I went in there and took care of business, got the W. I didn’t take any damage, what else can you really ask for? “ says Byrd in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Byrd earned his way into the UFC when he competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 6, defeating Randall Wallace by second round submission.

A win over Stewart could do big thing for Byrd, who is just looking to take advantage of whatever opportunities come his way.

“I think it just puts me one step closer to the top ten, just beat him and I’m sure they will give me another formidable opponent. I taking my time, I’m gonna knock these guys down one by one until I get to the king. Once I get to the king, I’m just gonna knock his head off. Its kind of how I feel, I’m very patient…always patient, but I’m always gonna be ready for whatever opportunity that comes about. That’s kind of how I look at it,” says Byrd.

UFC 228 takes place on Saturday, September 8 from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas with Tyron Woodley and Darren Till headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
