Martin Day is set to make his UFC debut this coming weekend at UFC Fight Night Beijing and Pingyuan Liu will serve as Day’s opponent at that event.
The newly signed UFC fighter thought the call was coming from the UFC after he defeated another highly touted prospect in Brady Huang earlier this year.
“I thought maybe it was going to be coming, I was working for whatever comes my way…staying in the gym…staying ready. My last fight definitely catapulted me a little bit, that guy was eight and zero and all (wins) with all finishes…seven were first round finishes. So it was a good win on my record and I think that one definitely put me up there in the contention a little more,” says Day in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Day had another opportunity to get into the UFC after competing on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 6, but suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jaime Alvarez at that event.
While Day may not know how the victory will come in Beijing, one thing the fighter knows is that nothing will stop him from getting his hand raised.
“I see it definitely going in my (favor), I worked too hard…this is my time. This is my time and no ones gonna take it away from me, I don’t care if I have to go into this guys hometown and take it from him right in front of his own countrymen. I’m going to do that, nothing will stop me from doing that. I will leave the victor, I’m going to do whatever it takes to make that happen,” says Day.
UFC Fight Night Beijing takes place on Saturday, November 24 from the Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China with Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
