In this exclusive interview with Fightful's James Lynch, nutritionist George Lockhart of LockhartAndLeith talks about working with Daniel Cormier ahead of his title defense at UFC 220. George also talks about working with celebrities like Demi Lovato, the growth of his performance nutrition company and why he believes Conor McGregor will return to the UFC.
One of Lockhart’s biggest clients is UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor, whom Lockart believes is going to be back in the Octagon one day.
“Honestly I would be shocked (if McGregor doesn’t return to the UFC). Conor, he’s a business man, but he’s a fighter, he loves fighting. Its in his blood, I’d put my money on it that he’d be back in the cage,” says Lockhart.
Khabib Nurmagomedov returned to action after a year-plus layoff to defeat Edson Barboza by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 219.
Nurmagomedov has had weight cutting issues in the past, but Lockhart says that wasn’t a concern heading into his latest bout.
“I think, you know Khabib was a lot lower, you know he had been very strict with his diet. He went above and beyond. He made sure that when went went out there, it was very easy for Tyler (from LockhartAndLeith) to do what he had to do, Tyler would talk to me and we were a team. We all would back things up, make sure we were doing the right things, but Tyler did everything right. The cool thing was, the best thing was Khabib did everything Tyler said to do and it made the cut…it was a relatively good cut, but man he looked like a friggin animal out there in the fight,” says Lockhart.
Lockhart also stated in the interview that over a hundred of the fighters on the UFC roster use him and his team for their weight cutting process. Lockhart and his team also plans on releasing a DVD series at some point in the future.
