Luis Pena is making his second trip to the Octagon this November at UFC Fight Night Denver, facing Mike Trizano.

Since fans last saw Pena in action, an amazing life event took place for the fighter and that was that Pena got to meet his biological father.

“It went really well actually, I think we’re gonna be able to build a pretty solid relationship going forward. It was really interesting to, you know I actually got an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas. When I first did it, I got a bunch of results that said third and fifth cousin. Then out of nowhere, a couple of weeks ago I got an email from Ancestry DNA and it said I had a new DNA match. I’m looking at it and I’m going through all the information and its showing me that we match for all the DNA markers, I didn’t know where they came from. I’ve already met my biological mother, I met her when I was 19. I’m going down and it says the most likely relationship is a child/parent, I’m like ‘oh…wow.’ Lo and behold, we started messaging each other through Ancestry DNA and we kind of confirmed that we were related…that he’s my dad. It was pretty interesting, it was pretty cool meeting him. It was like one of those things in my entire life that I kind of asked, like ‘you know where I come from?’ To finally have that question answered…it was pretty amazing,” says Pena in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Pena is going to be looking for his second win under the UFC banner at UFC Fight Night Denver, with the fighter’s first win coming over Richie Smullen at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale.

While Pena’s next bout at UFC Fight Night Denver is being contested at lightweight, a move to the featherweight division may be coming in his future.

“I kind of want to see where this fight goes and assess it, but I think after this fight, I’m gonna try a mock cut to 145. Then depending on how easy or hard that is…how difficult it is, I’m gonna go forward from there,” says Pena.

UFC Fight Night Denver takes place on Saturday, November 10 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with Frankie Edgar and Chan Sung Jung headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
