Rizin will hear a familiar voice this month in the form of Fightful.com's own 'Showdown' Joe Ferraro.
Ferraro announced on this week's episode of the Holy Smokes MMA Podcast that he'll return to the commentary booth for Rizin for their two end-of-year shows, Rizin World Grand Prix. Joe called multiple events for Rizin up until new management took over the the company earlier this year.
Joe isn't going alone, as he'll also be joined by UFC Hall of Famer and Fightful.com alumni Frank Trigg. The former fighter will provide color commentary in the same month that he made his UFC debut as a referee. Trigg often appears on Fightful programming as a special analyst.
Rizin has had issues with commentary teams in the past making inappropriate comments, speaking into hot mics, and gaining some critical heat in recent years. Among the carousel of names involved Chris Cordeiro, Anthony Birchak, Joe Warren, among others.
The Rizin GP is set for December 29 and 31 locally, and features Kyoji Horiguchi, Cindy Dandois, Gabi Garcia, Ian McCall, Mirko Cro Cop, Takanori Gomi and many more.
In addition to this month's Rizin shows, Ferraro still works with Titan FC with Kamaru Usman in the commentary booth as well. He'll be calling the action for Titan FC 47 this Friday from Pembroke Pines in Florida.
A programming note: James Lynch is slated to fill in for 'Showdown' Joe on the UFC 219 post-show podcast at Fightful.
