UFC 229's Yana Kunitskaya Talks Lina Lansberg, Move To Las Vegas & NFL Football

Former Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion Yana Kunitskaya is back in action at UFC 229, facing Lina Lansberg in a preliminary card affair.

One huge decision that Kunitskaya made prior to UFC 229 was to move to Las Vegas, which was actually inspired by her last trip to the city for a bout against UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cyborg.

“I really like training in Albuquerque, but its very hard to leave her. Its a small city, but my last fight was here in Vegas and I was at the UFC Performance Institute. (Its a) really good place, they were taking care of everything. So you don’t need to think about what to eat, they’re preparing your food. Its like much more easier for me here in Vegas,” says Kunitskaya in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Kunitskaya is still looking for that first win under the UFC banner, as her previous bout in the promotion was a loss to the aforementioned Cyborg.

While Kunitskaya made her UFC debut at featherweight, its a weight that she doesn’t plan on competing in anymore.

“I feel really good at 135, I didn’t like my body at 145. It feels like I’m not lean enough, at 135…I’m lean and I recover very good. Before Cyborg, I fought five rounds (against Raquel Pa’aluhi in Invicta FC). Its my weight class,” says Kunitskaya.

UFC 229 takes place on Saturday, October 3 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
