A lot of Brazilian fighters picked up home country wins at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo 2018, with Francisco Trinaldo and Thiago Santos among the victorious.
Both fighters were also injured leading into the event, with Trinaldo almost pulling out of the card due to severe tooth pain.
“I spent a week with tooth pain,” Trinaldo said to MMA Junkie. “I trained, I couldn’t sleep. I disappeared from the gym. Four times, at night, I called my manager asking to cancel the fight.”
Trinaldo would stay on the card and score a knockout win over Evan Dunham, who was competing for the final time as a professional MMA fighter.
Santos, who headlined the card against Eryk Anders, suffered a severe thigh injury before the event according to his manager.
“He went down in pain,” Tata Duarte said to MMA Fighting. “We stopped training and sent him to our physical therapist, Bernardo Moura, to check him out and start the treatment. Bernardo said that the ideal would be two weeks of recovery, but we only had one. We did physical therapy for three days and went to Sao Paulo on Sunday. The UFC sent their physical therapist, Bob, on Monday and we kept the treatment.”
Neither fighter is booked for another bout at this time and it is unknown how long their respective injuries will keep them out of action for.
