Gilbert Melendez Says Nick Diaz Has Retired

Nick Diaz was last seen in action over four years ago at UFC 183, fighting former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva to a no contest.

Gilbert Melendez is a longtime friend and training partner of Diaz, who says the fighter is retired.

“I would love to see him come back, but last time I checked, he’s retired,” Melendez said on You’re Welcome (via MMA Junkie).

Nick has yet to publicly announce his retirement, but if he is indeed finished fighting, it would leave the fighter’s professional MMA record at 26-9-0-2NC.

Nate Diaz is Nick’s brother and he hasn’t competed since UFC 202, but Melendez says the younger Diaz is living a good lifestyle as a businessman.

“He’s training hard,” said Melendez. “His brand is huge. He’s so dang famous; the guy’s an A-lister now. Everyone knows him where I go. He’s big in the cannabis game out there and hanging out with celebrities, doing appearances. Being a real businessman out there. He has his specialties, and he’s doing good. He’s training all the time, living a good lifestyle.”

The younger Diaz brother was supposed to fight Dustin Poirier at UFC 230, but Porier withdrew from the bout due to a hip injury.
