Glover Teixeira was supposed to fight Jimi Manuwa in the main event of UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo, but a shoulder injury caused him to be pulled from the event.
A frustrated Teixeira now believes the shoulder injury will require surgery, or at least some rehab before he steps back into the Octagon again.
“I visited (the doctor) before, but since I got injured again, I’ll see if something (got worse),” Teixeira said to MMA Fighting. “We’ll see if I need surgery or only physical therapy. I think I’ll need surgery because I wanted to have surgery before.”
There is no word on how long Teixeira could be out of action for, but more should be known once the surgery is done or the rehab process is started.
Teixeira admits that he knew about the shoulder injury before agreeing to fight Manuwa next month, but believes training for UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo made things worse.
“The doctor had already told me that my rotator cuff was injured,” Teixeira said. “And I think it just got worse now.”
Nobody has been announced as Teixeira’s replacement at this time and there is just under a month left until the event takes place.
