Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields is a longtime training partner of both Nick and Nate Diaz and has some unique insight on the two.
The Diaz Brothers haven’t been very active in the UFC as of late, with Nick last competing at UFC 183 and Nate not fighting since UFC 202.
Shields believes both brothers have been out of action for so long because they are simply waiting for big money fight opportunities and nothing else.
“I have trained with them a lot. Currently, I am in New York so I’m not training with them as much,” Shields said to BJPenn.com. “I have trained with these guys non-stop for years now. I think they both want to fight still, just not as often. Nate is just waiting for the Conor fight or big fights, and same with Nick, he was just waiting for big fights. They both had great careers already, so they are just looking for the big money fights now.”
Nick is rumored to be back in action this March at UFC 235 against Jorge Masvidal, but that bout hasn’t been made official at this time. Nate was scheduled to be fighting Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 earlier this month, but Poirier pulled out of the bout due to injury.
