Joanne Calderwood Has To Stay Ready For A Potential Title Shot At UFC 238

Joanne Calderwood is back in action at UFC 238, facing Katlyn Chookagian in a women’s flyweight division fight.

While Calderwood is game planning for a bout against Chookagian, a potential title bout could also be in her future.

“I saw Dana at the (UFC’s Performance Institute) and he told me that I should be ready, and I said, ‘I’m already ready,’” Calderwood told MMA Junkie. “And I’m going to be hitting that weight – 125, championship weight – and just be training for a five-round fight. Because you just never know, especially in this sport – it’s such a crazy one. So I’m definitely going to be ready.”

Valentina Shevcheno is defending the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title against Jessica Eye on the same UFC 238 card.

While a potential late change in opponents could be frustrating for some fighters, it doesn’t appear to be the case for Calderwood.

“In any fight, you could face the opponent changing the week of or even the day before,” Calderwood said. “So I think it’s good to always have your eye on your other opponents, especially people that are on your card.”

UFC 238 takes place on Saturday, June 8 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
