Jorge Masvidal wants to get back to a UFC welterweight title shot and see's many viable opponents to help make that happen in his return to the Octagon.
The former UFC title challenger spoke about his intentions during a media appearance over the weekend, saying he'd be open to facing either Gilbert Burns or Leon Edwards in his next fight. Ultimately though, Masvidal just wants to face whoever gets him closest to another crack at the UFC's 170-pound crown.
“I don’t know, man,” Masvidal said (h/t MMAJunkie). “I mean, sh*t, (Gilbert) ‘Durinho’ (Burns) is calling me out. If we can make it pop with ‘Durinho,’ Leon (Edwards), any one of these guys that gets me closer to the belt, I don’t care how many fights I have to do."
To their credit, both Burns and Edwards also seem to be all for a potential bout with Masvidal. Edwards responded to Masvidal's request with a tweet simply saying he'll be ready to go by the end of the year and Burns did something similar, keeping it short and sweet with a tweet of his own accepting the fight. Masvidal is looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, the most recent defeat coming at UFC 261 where he was knocked out in the second round of the pair's rematch.
