Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo could be back in action soon against fellow featherweight contender Jeremy Stephens.
While reports initially stated that Aldo wanted the fight at UFC 224, it would appear the bout is heading to UFC Fight Night Singapore on June 23 according to Combate.
Andre Pederneiras is the manager and coach of Aldo, who said during the Shooto Brasil 81 broadcast this past weekend that the former featherweight champion is just waiting for Stephens to sign the contract.
“Jeremy Stephens asked for the fight against Aldo. Three days ago, the UFC gave us a fight at UFC-Singapore as an option for Aldo’s return. (On Friday) we accepted it, and we’re just waiting on confirmation on the other side and a contract to sign," says Pederneiras.
Stephens has yet to respond to the claims made by Pederneiras, while the same can also be said about the UFC at this time.
If the fight does come together, it would be the first non-title bout for Aldo in his entire run with the UFC.
UFC Fight Night Singapore takes place on Saturday, June 23 from a venue to be announced in Singapore with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
