Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo hasn’t been in the Octagon since suffering a third round TKO loss to UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway at UFC 218.
Aldo wants to get back into action as soon as possible and he has an opponent in mind, which is top ranked featherweight Jeremy Stephens.
The former featherweight kingpin made his feelings known about UFC 224 in an interview with Combate News.
“I asked to fight him, he asked to fight me, so it will be a great fight,” Aldo said. “I’m waiting for them to set it up.”
Stephens hasn’t competed since a controversial knockout win over Josh Emmett at UFC On Fox 28 last month. The win was considered controversial because Stephens apparently hit Emmett with several illegal elbow strikes and an illegal knee strike.
There has been no word yet from either Stephens or the UFC as to whether or not the featherweight showdown will take place, as UFC 224 is just under two months away from taking place.
UFC 224 takes place on Saturday, May 12 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
