UFC lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot continued his push for a matchup with former interim UFC lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje.
Gamrot spoke with the media at the UFC Vegas 57 post-fight press conference following his unanimous decision win over Arman Tsarukyan in Saturday night's headliner and reiterated his interest in the Gaethje matchup, while also explaining his hopes for a future title fight against fellow contender Islam Makhachev.
“I’m a big fan of Justin Gaethje,” Gamrot said (h/t MMA Fighting). “I have a lot of respect for him, I think he’s the most brutal guy in the lightweight division. This guy fought two times in title shots. I think he is old school, I am new generation, now I want to switch places. I start climbing to the top. Today, I was asking with Khabib, and he said to me, ‘Congratulations on your fight. You are a nice guy. For sure, in the future, you will meet with Islam in a fight.’ So I keep my fingers crossed for Islam, I think Islam beats Charles Oliveira next fight, and I want a next fight with Justin and next fighting with Islam. Simple plan.”
