Former UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson is quickly putting himself in line for another shot at Chandler and the lightweight gold, but Chandler isn’t excited about possibly fighting Henderson again.
“When I win this fight, we’ll see what’s next,” Chandler told MMA Junkie. “Benson Henderson doesn’t really excite me. He’s a guy that can fight until he’s 50 years old and do exactly what he’s doing right now and always have decently close fights.”
Chandler and Henderson first met at Bellator 165, with Chandler pulling out a split decision win on that night.
Henderson is currently riding a three fight winning streak, but Chandler says those wins have come against sub-par competition.
“Just because Benson has won a couple of fights against sub-par opponents doesn’t mean he’s back, or he’s a top contender,” Chandler said. “A fight against him doesn’t really excite me. He’s a guy you don’t really want to fight because he doesn’t do anything for you. I’ve already dismantled him once, and I think after this fight we’re going to look to see what’s next.”
Bellator 221 takes place on Saturday, May 11 from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois with Michael Chandler and Patricio Pitbull headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on DAZN.
