Montel Jackson Replaces Benito Lopez At UFC 227

Benito Lopez has suffered an injury and has been pulled from UFC 227, replacing him against Ricky Simon at the event is going to be Montel Jackson.

The news of this card change was revealed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 14.

Simon (13-1-0) is also undefeated thus far in UFC competition, having defeated Merab Dvalishvili in his UFC debut by third round submission at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City. Simon also fought on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 5, defeating Donovan Frelow by split decision. Simon is a former LFA Bantamweight Champion, defeating UFC veteran Chico Camus by unanimous decision at LFA 29 to claim the gold.

Jackson (3-0-0) is going to be making his UFC debut in this fight and does so with an undefeated streak that has lasted just over a year. Jackson did competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 9, defeating Rico DiSciullo by third round TKO. Jackson also went undefeated as an amateur, with none of those bouts making it past the opening round.  

UFC 227 takes place on Saturday, August 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
