Neil Magny On Not Fighting Khamzat Chimaev: “It Was Pretty Frustrating That I Didn't Get That" Fight

Khamzat Chimaev will fight Leon Edwards this December in the main event of a Fight Night card, but one person who wanted to fight Chimaev is Neil Magny.

Magny says that he is frustrated with the fact that the fight with Chimaev didn’t materialize.

"It was pretty frustrating that I didn't get that matchup," Magny said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Nick Baldwin of The Score). "But it was even more frustrating that it went to Leon Edwards."

Edwards is ranked higher than Magny in the welterweight division rankings, with Magny at #9 and Edwards at #3.

The #9 ranked fighter believes that Chimaev accepted the fight with Edwards because Edwards was an easier match up when compared to him.

"The only thing I can possibly think of that caused this fight not to go through is (Chimaev's) team thought it was a better matchup for him," Magny said. "I'm not gonna sit there and toot my own horn and say that fighting a No. 8 guy is a better deal than fighting a No. 3 guy. But I'm pretty sure his team might've thought that Leon Edwards is the easier fight for him."
