Newly crowned Bellator lightweight champion Patricky "Pitbull" Freire wants to face current Bellator featherweight champion A.J. McKee in a super fight of sorts in his first title defense.
Freire who defeated Peter Queally via a second-round TKO at Bellator 270 last Friday to become the promotion's new 155-pound champ, recently spoke with Super Lutas' Fernando Keller about his desire to face McKee next and avenge his brother Patricio's first-round submission loss back at Bellator 263 in June to the 26-year old Lakewood, California native.
“What I want to do now is defend the belt, make history in this division. I want to keep knocking them out, beating my opponents like I do," Freire said (h/t Bloody Elbow). "A champion who knocks people out is a much better look than anything else. I want to keep knocking them out. (If I could choose who’s next, it’s) AJ McKee. So I could return the favor my brother did to me when he beat Chandler. He had some weight issues against my brother. He’s been struggling with that for a while now. I’m sure he’s suffering a lot. If they want to put me against him, I’m ready to beat him up. I can already picture the staredown.”
It's a new age for the Bellator lightweight division.
