Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar is scheduled to face Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night Raleigh, but Edgar has now accepted a short notice opportunity to headline UFC Fight Night Busan against Chan Sung Jung.
With the UFC Fight Night Raleigh bout in jeopardy, one fighter in Pedro Munhoz has volunteered to replace Edgar at the event.
“We’re seven weeks away from that card and I’ve been training hard to fight in December already, so that would be a great date for me,” Munhoz told MMA Fighting. “He’s ranked No. 3 and I’m No. 6, so this fight makes sense.”
It should be noted that Edgar versus Sandhagen is still on at this time for UFC Fight Night Raleigh.
Munhoz believes a bout between himself and Sandhagen would prove to be an exciting one for the fans.
“It would be an exciting fight for the fans because we both go for the knockout at all times,” Munhoz said. “We would save the co-main event and put on a great fight.”
UFC Fight Night Raleigh takes place on Saturday, January 25 from the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina with Curtis Blaydes and Junior Dos Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
