Report: Carla Esparza vs. Marina Rodriguez Off July 15 UFC Card Due To Positive Coronavirus Test

This month’s UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige card has taken yet another hit as a bout between former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza and Marina Rodriguez has been pulled from the event due to a positive coronavirus test.

MMA Fighting first reported the news, stating that one of Rodriguez’s cornermen tested positive for the virus, which prompted the UFC to remove Rodriguez from the card as a safety measure. Esparza was also removed off the card instead of given a replacement opponent because the UFC will reportedly look to rebook the bout for a future show.

Esparza and Rodriguez became the third and fourth fighters removed from UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige due to the coronavirus, as Vinicus Moreira and Anderson Dos Santos were also pulled from the card due to positive tests.

There has been no comment yet from Esparza, Rodriguez or the UFC on the positive coronavirus test.

UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige takes place on Wednesday, July 15 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
