Giga Chikadze has reportedly been pulled from UFC Vegas 8 after testing positive for COVID-19, replacing him against Alex Caceres is Kevin Croom.
Mike Heck of MMA Fighting first reported the cancellation. A follow-up report by Giorgi Kokiashvili and adjarasport.com claims Chikadze tested positive for COVID-19. Fightful has reached out to Chikadze for confirmation.
Caceres (16-12-0-1NC) enters the contest riding a two fight winning streak, defeating the duo of Steven Peterson and Chase Hooper. Caceres hasn’t suffered a defeat in over a year, with that last loss coming to Kron Gracie at UFC Fight Night Phoenix. Caceres has picked up sixteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and half of them came by wayy of decision.
Croom (21-12-0) is making his UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a three fight winning streak. Croom is the current Fight Alliance Championship Featherweight Champion, defeating Anderson Hutchison at FAC 3 to win the gold. Croom has won just one of two when competing in Bellator, with that lone win coming over Adil Benjilany at Bellator 239.
UFC Vegas 8 is set for Saturday, August 29 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Anthony Smith and Aleksander Rakic headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
