Report: Joseph Benavidez Backup For UFC Fight Night Brooklyn Title Fight, Figueiredo Bout Off

MMA

There has been a change to next month’s UFC Fight Night Brooklyn card as Joseph Benavidez has been named the backup for the flyweight title bout between champion Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw, leaving Benavidez’s bout with Deiveson Figueiredo canceled.

Benavidez says there are a ton of options on the table for UFC Fight Night Brooklyn and he’s preparing for then all.

“I’m just going to be there,” Benavidez said to MMA Junkie. “The options happen. You don’t always get your preference. I would rather fight than just weigh in, but that’s a whole other thing. I don’t wish ill will on anyone in the title fight, either, because I know how hard they worked to get there. If someone falls out then I get that opportunity, as well. There’s a ton of options on the table, and I’m ready for all of them. I’ll be in Brooklyn ready to fight for the title.”

There is no word on if Figueiredo will remain on the card or if he’ll get booked in another fight at a future date.

UFC Fight Night Brooklyn takes place on Saturday, January 19 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
