Report: Max Holloway Declared Medically Unfit To Compete At UFC 223

MMA

The last week has been a rollercoaster for the UFC Lightweight division.

As reported by ESPN's Brett Okamoto, Max Holloway will not be fighting in the main event of UFC 223. He has been declared medically unfit to compete due to his large weight cut.

On Sunday, Holloway was selected to replace the injured Tony Ferguson and had only five days to make the 155 pound limit. Even though Holloway usually fights at Featherweight where he is champion, his nutritionist said it was one of his team's hardest weight cuts to day.

Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov were supposed to compete for the UFC Lightweight Championship.

The fight card has already lost three fights as a result of Conor McGregor's rampage at the Barclays Center where two fighters were injured and McGregor's teammate removed from the card. UFC 223 still has the UFC Strawweight Championship between Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jedrzejczyk on the card.

Fightful MMA will have live coverage and a recapping podcast for UFC 223.
