A women’s strawweight division attraction will now headline UFC Vegas 10 as no. 8 Michelle Waterson faces no, 13 Angela Hill.
Ariel Helwani of ESPN first reported the news as the card needed a new main event after Glover Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19. His bout against Thiago Santos was subsequently moved to October 3.
Waterson (17-8-0) comes into the contest riding a two-fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza. Waterson has seen her last six fights go the distance and it has been over three years since the fighter got a finish. Waterson is a former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion, defeating Jessica Penne at Invicta FC 5 to claim the gold.
Hill (12-8-0) has won three of her last four in the UFC, with those wins coming over Ariane Carnelossi, Hannah Cifers and Loma Lookboonmee. Hill is competing for the fourth time in 2020, tying it with 2019 as her most active year as a professional MMA fighter. Hill is a former Invicta FC Strawweight Champion, defeating Livinha Souza by split decision at Invicta FC 17 to win the gold.
