Nate Diaz has hinted recently that he would be interested in returning to the Octagon in either May or June of this year.
However, a report coming from ESPN is saying that the Stockton native could return later in the summer, more precisely this August at UFC 227.
If the report turns out to be true, it would mark Diaz’s first bout since a decision loss to former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor at UFC 202.
MMA Fighting is also reporting that the UFC has offered Diaz fights against everybody in the lightweight division top five, with the exceptions being Conor Mcgregor and UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
With McGregor and Nurmagomedov not being options for Diaz to fight, it would leave former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson, former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier and Kevin Lee as top five ranked opponents for Diaz to battle.
While there are both reports from MMA Fighting and ESPN about a potential Diaz return, it should also be noted that neither Diaz or anybody from the UFC have commented on the competitors potential return to the Octagon.
UFC 227 is set for Saturday, August 4 and the only fight announced for the card at this time will see UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw defend against Cody Garbrandt.
