The UFC bantamweight championship is going to be defended in the co-main event of UFC 256 as Petr Yan defends against Aljamain Sterling (no. 1)
Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the bout.
Yan (15-1-0) is going to be making the first defense of his championship, which the fighter won by defeating Jose Aldo at UFC 251. Yan enters the contest riding a 10 fight winning streak and he hasn’t been defeated in almost five years. Yan’s lone defeat as a professional MMA fighter came to Magomed Magomedov, who was recently signed by Bellator.
Sterling (19-3-0) enters the contest riding a five-fight winning streak, picking up wins over Brett Johns, Cody Stamann, Jimmie Rivera, Pedro Munhoz and Cory Sandhagen. Sterling has suffered three losses during his professional MMA career and all of them came during his UFC tenure. Sterling has competed 22 times as a professional MMA fighter and half of those bouts went the distance.
