A middleweight division attraction has been added to UFC 254 as #1 Robert Whittaker is in action against #3 Jared Cannonier.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN, citing UFC President Dana White, first reported the bout.
Whittaker (21-5-0) is undefeated since losing the UFC Middleweight Title, defeating Darren Till by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till. Whittaker is a former UFC Middleweight Champion, defeating Yoel Romero to win the gold at UFC 213 to win the gold. Whittaker is going to be competing in his first non-main event fight in over three years, with his last such appearance coming at UFC On Fox 24.
Cannonier (13-4-0) enters the contest riding a three fight winning streak, picking up wins over Anderson Silva, Jack Hermansson and David Branch. Cannonier has competed in three weight classes in the UFC and the fighter holds an overall record of 6-4-0 in the promotion. Cannonier has picked up thirteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and nine of them came by way of KO/TKO.
