The Irish prospect wasted no time in trying to knock Burwell out in the first round. Coyle landed a series of right hands and uppercuts to back up Burwell and pressure him to the ropes. Coyle connected with a right hand to the side of his head to knock him down late in the opening round. Despite getting in trouble early, Burwell did manage to survive the round.

Coyle was able to keep attacking and landing the right hand throughout the rest of the fight, Burwell created opportunities for himself to come back. Burwell threw several combinations, some of which landed on Coyle, but nothing Burwell landed seriously hurt the unbeaten middleweight. Coyle had no trouble landing his punches as the fight progressed, but Burwell kept himself from being knocked out for the remainder of the bout.

Also on the card was a fight between Antonio Williams and Eduardo Garza that ended in a split draw. One judge had Williams and one had Garza winning each with scores of 77-75 while the third judge had the fight a 76-76 draw. On the undercard, Rosalinda Rodriguez cruised to six-round unanimous decision win against Martina Horgasz, winning with all three judges scoring the bout 60-54 in favor of Rodriguez.
