A middleweight division attraction is a late addition to the UFC 227 card as #13 Thiago Santos is going to be in action against Kevin Holland.
The fight was announced during the broadcast of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 14.
Santos (17-6-0) has won four of his last five under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Jack Marshman, Gerald Meerschaert, Jack Hermansson and Anthony Smith. Santos also returns to a UFC pay-per-view event card for the first time in over a year, with his last such appearance coming at UFC 217. Santos hasn’t had a fight go the distance in almost three years, with his last bout to go to the judge’s scorecards coming at UFC Fight Night 80.
Holland (12-3-0) is going to be making his UFC debut in this bout and will do so on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Holland competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 9, defeating Will Santiago Jr by unanimous decision. Holland also competed once in Bellator MMA, defeating Teagan Dooley by first round submission at Bellator 195.
UFC 227 takes place on Saturday, August 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
