Former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is set to return to 170 pounds in his next Octagon appearance.
UFC President Dana White revealed the news during his post-fight conference following UFC 278 on Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Utah, and confirmed that Ferguson will face welterweight slugger, Li Jingliang, at UFC 279 on September 10 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ferguson returns to 170 pounds for the first time since June 2011 where he defeated Ramsey Nijem via a first-round KO to become the winner of the 13th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
He's currently riding a four-fight losing streak and will look to bounce back from a second-round KO loss to former UFC title challenger and Bellator lightweight champion, Michael Chandler, at UFC 274. Jingliang meanwhile is 5-2 in his last seven Octagon outings and is coming off of a second-round TKO win over Muslim Salikhov at UFC on ABC 3.
