In this exclusive interview with Fightful's James Lynch, Vinc Pichel (10-1) discusses his upcoming fight against Joaquim Silva (10-0) at UFC on FOX 27 on Jan. 27. Vinc also explains why he hasn't fought since June, his training camp for this matchup and what's next for him.
While Pichel hasn’t fought in over six months, it hasn’t been for a lack of trying to get back into the Octagon.
“Honestly, I don’t know (about being on such a long layoff), I’ve been trying to fight and maybe I just couldn’t get a fight. I have been trying, but it just hasn’t been able to come through for me. For whatever reason, I haven’t been able to fight since then (June 2017). I’ve got one now (a fight) and I’m pumped, I’m stoked for it,” says Pichel.
While Pichel is looking foward to his bout against Joaquim Silva at UFC On Fox 27, one opponent the fighter has always wanted to battle is Al Iaquinta.
That bout may never come to fruition in Pichel’s eyes because he believes the New York native is dodging him.
“I have been trying to call out (Al) Iaquinta for awhile but he keeps dodging me, telling me he’s retiring and doesn’t want to fight me. So now I’m like f*ck that guy, you know what I mean. I don’t want to hear his crying after I whoop his ass anyway and the UFC doesn’t want another hotel room thrash,” says Pichel.
UFC On Fox 27 takes place on Saturday, January 27 from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina with Ronaldo Souza and Derek Brunson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox.
