Yair Rodriguez suffered his first loss under the UFC banner to former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 211 in May of 2017.
As it would turn out, UFC 211 would mark the final fight of Rodriguez’s run with the promotion because he has been cut from the organization.
UFC President Dana White told the Los Angeles Times late Thursday Night that the featherweight star has been cut from the promotion for allegedly turning down the opportunity to fight either Ricardo Lamas or Zabit Magomedsharipov.
The rumored bout with Magomedsharipov was supposed to take place at UFC 227, no word have been given as to when the potential fight with Lamas would’ve happened.
Rodriguez still sits at #11 in the UFC Featherweight Division rankings, but he should be removed from that spot when the new rankings come out this Tuesday.
A now released Rodriguez won six of seven during his time with the UFC, with those victories coming over Leonardo Morales, Charles Rosa, Dan Hooker, Andre Fili, Alex Caceres and BJ Penn.
There has been no statement made yet by Rodriguez or any of his representatives since White announced the fighter was no longer in the UFC.
