The idea of a XFL relaunch seemed crazy even a few months ago. But plans are in fact coming together, a new report says.
PWInsider reports that WWE's production team are working on video material that would be geared towards the return of the XFL, a football league that lasted one season in 2001 before shuttering due to low ratings. The idea is to launch in 2020, that way there can be time to build an infrastructure that would include hiring coaches and players. This would be different than the original incarnation, where it was announced in February 2000 and launched exactly a year later.
This comes following initial reports that Vince McMahon had taken stock out of WWE to found an entirely new entity called Alpha Entertainment. WWE's statement at the time indicated the entity would be used for a number of entertainment and sports opportunities, including football. It's interesting to note that despite WWE indicating this would be an entity away from WWE, their own production team may be working on material for the revived league.
