Dominik Mysterio On JD McDonagh Finishing Their Match While Injured: That's On Me, I Should Have Done Better

On a past episode of WWE Raw, JD McDonagh performed an Asai Moonsault during a tag team match where he and Dominik Mysterio took on the War Raiders. McDonagh performed the move to the outside of the ring and, in doing so, he hit the announce desk, puncturing one of his lungs and breaking his ribs.

It was a scary moment, but McDonagh finished the match and earned a lot of respect from fans in doing so.

Recently, Dominik Mysterio spoke to Sam Roberts on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and offered a little bit of insight into the match, the moment, and his own feelings regarding McDonagh's injury. Sam told Dominik that it was insane that McDonagh finished the match, and Mysterio took a little bit of the blame for the decision.

That’s on me, too. There are a couple of things in that match that I should’ve done better. Sorry, JD. After he was already fucked up, we were getting close to where I hit the 619 and we had planned the 619 and JD moonsault, but he told me, ‘I can’t do the moonsault.’ In my head, I’m like, ‘You gotta do the fucking moonsault.’ In my head, I’m not going to beat Ivar’s fatass with just a 619 and frogsplash, I have to hit him with more. I hit the 619 and I’m running and JD is [in pain]. I was already running, but he committed. I love that guy. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ He’s like, [miming catching his breath] ‘Oh, you’re good brother.’ He finished the match, but it was bad. He’s such a trooper. I love that dude," Mysterio said.

Dominik won the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41 Sunday with help from the returning McDonagh, defeating Bron Breakker, Finn Balor, and Penta in a four-way bout.
