Back in July, former Lucha Underground star Sexy Star, real name Dulce Garcia, shocked the wrestling world when she said that she is hanging up her mask and taking up boxing gloves instead.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Garcia is expected to make her boxing debut before the end of the year. She won't be fighting as Sexy Star, ala, Alberto del Rio as Dos Caras Jr,. Instead, she will box as Dulce Garcia. WON says that Garcia has been participating in underground fights to get, ready and has a 6-1 amateur record.
She made her announcement when she appeared at a boxing event back in July without her mask. Garcia is the wife of pro boxer Jhonny Gonzales (61-10, 51 KO).
In a recent interview with reporteindigo.com, Garcia spoke on how difficult it is to leave wrestling and the Sexy Star character.
“It's hard to talk about this topic because Sexy Star is everything to me,” Garcia said. “I have her name tattooed on my heart. She is a warrior and many people were inspired by her. I’ll always have her in my heart and it always remain a tough subject to talk about.”
As Sexy Star, she was one of Lucha Underground's biggest stars and became the first ever female Lucha Underground Champion.
We've seen wrestling's crossover with MMA of late, but boxing also has had a long history in the squared circle. Muhammad Ali was a special guest referee at WrestleMania 1, Mike Tyson was the special guest enforcer for the WrestleMania 14 main event of Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin and Floyd Mayweather defeated Big Show in a marquee matchup at WrestleMania 24.
