From the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, UFC 222 drew 12,041 fans for a live gate of $1.4 million.
The event was headlined by Cris Cyborg defending her women's featherweight title against Yana Kunitskaya. It was Cyborg's second straight appearance at the T-Moble arena. She headlined UFC 219 against Holly Holm back in December at the same arena. That event drew 13,561 fans for a gate of $1.7 million.
As far as bonuses go, it should come as no surprise to learn that Brian Ortega took home one of the Performance of the Night bonuses. His first-round knockout of Frankie Edgar, who had never been finished prior to Saturday, stunned the MMA world. Ortega initially stunned Edgar with a counter elbow, lifted him off his feet with an uppercut, and then finished him on the ground.
Alexander Hernandez walked away with the other Performance of the Night bonus. Hernandez made short work of Beneil Dariush, finishing the fight by knockout in 33 seconds.
Sean O'Malley and Andre Soukhamthah were awarded Fight of the Night for their 15-minute bout. O'Malley won by unanimous decision, cruising through the first two rounds. He injured his leg in the third round, giving Soukhamthah an opening. Despite his opponent being unable to stand, Soukhamthah took the fight to the ground. He couldn't come up with the finish and ended up on the wrong side of the scorecards.
