Adam Cole Isn't Sure He Was Going To Win AEW World Title From MJF, 'That's Certainly Where It Seemed We Were Going'

Adam Cole and MJF headlined the biggest AEW show ever when they battled in the main event of AEW All In 2023.

MJF retained the AEW World Title on that night, but their story was far from over as their bromance continued into the winter.

Unfortunately, Cole suffered an ankle injury at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam 2023 that left him unable to wrestle for over a year. Cole would be revealed as The Devil at AEW Worlds End, aligning with Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, & Mike Bennett) and Wardlow to help cost MJF the AEW World Title against Samoa Joe.

Speaking to James Stewart on Stick To Wrestling, Cole was asked if the plan was for him to win the AEW World Title at some point from MJF before his injury.

"In the world of professional wrestling, there are constantly different ideas being thrown around or changes constantly. Do I know for sure that I was going to be in line to becoming the AEW World Champion? I'm not totally sure. That's certainly where it seemed like we were going. That's certainly the direction I think, very possibly, could have happened had I not been injured, which really did add to the mental anguish of the entire process. There are constant roadblocks thrown in our way all the time. We have to adapt and pivot. I still have a lot of my wrestling career left, so I certainly hope the AEW World Title is in my future in the future," he said.

Cole returned to the ring on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite for his first match in over a year. Cole was victorious over Buddy Matthews.

Cole needs to win two more matches to earn a match against MJF at AEW Full Gear.
