Adam Copeland set himself up for a showdown with Jon Moxley and he's hoping for an old-school title fight.
Adam Copeland returned to AEW at AEW Worlds End and for the first time ever, he got physical with Jon Moxley, dropping the AEW World Champion with a Spear before declaring that he and FTR, Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, were coming for everything Jon Moxley's Death Riders have.
On the media scrum following the pay-per-view event, Adam Copeland was asked about his goals moving forward. In response, he told Leo of the Wrestling Classic that he's hoping to capture gold alongside FTR and win his first AEW World Title, too.
He would go on to describe the match he wants to have with John Moxley as an old, gritty, NWA World's Heavyweight Championship match.
"If you can think about gold, that’s what we’re going after. I think [FTR] should be tag team champions, I think we should win the trios championships, I’m going after the world heavyweight championship," he said. "For a while, when I first got here, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m here, I’ve got to get the lay of the land. I have to get everybody to know who I am.’ That’s gone. Now it’s time to be here and to make a difference, to show everybody exactly who I am and exactly who [FTR] are. There is a reason I’ve accomplished everything I’ve accomplished in this industry and there is a reason that nobody can scratch what I’ve accomplished. Take a look, nobody can. That may sound egotistical and cocky, but when it’s true, it’s just confidence.
"My plan is to go after Jon Moxley in a match that you’ve never seen before between two guys who are at the top of their field and go out there and do what we do, which is to have kick-ass old, grinding, gritty, NWA World Heavyweight Title matches-type vibe. That’s what I want to get out of him. That’s what I’m looking forward to. It’s going to happen sooner than later."
Adam Copeland is no stranger to fighting members of the former Shield for World Heavyweight Championships. In 2021, Cope, as Edge in WWE, challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title twice, including in a Triple Threat Match at WWE WrestleMania 37. That match also featured Brian Danielson, the same man that MOX defeated to capture his fourth AEW World Title.
Copeland won't have to wait long to find himself on the opposite side of the squared circle from Jon Moxley. Rated FTR (Adam Copeland, Dax Harwood, and Cash Wheeler) will face Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli of the Death Riders on AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen.
