Adam Copeland wants to have a gnarly fight with Jon Moxley.
Copeland had been out of action with a fractured tibia since May, but he returned at AEW Worlds End. There, he confronted AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and dropped him with a Spear. Copeland and FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) will face Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta at AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen.
Speaking with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on SI, Adam Copeland discussed his return and his excitement about facing Jon Moxley.
"I still get amped up. I still get excited when I think about [pro wrestling]. So for me, just the idea of doing that, getting that match, seeing that on a marquee, Cope vs. Mox, to me that's one that needed to happen. You can go, should we do it here? Should we do it here? Should we do it here? It's like, I'm coming back, that's the time to do this and get this going and tell that story. I've always said I'm a designated hitter. Where do you need me? Okay, right now we're moving into Max. You want a recognizable face? Got it. Okay, you need me for this right now. Well, then let's do me and Mox right now then. That's how I look at things, more so than I gotta go from this story, to this story, to this story. Where are we as a company? Where do you need me? You need my face here, for right now, coming off an Emmy nomination, all those things. I get it. Cool. Put me here. Let's go," Copeland said.
Copeland also looked forward to eventually facing Moxley in a singles match and noted that he thought it would be uglier in all the ways that he loved. He said that Moxley reminded him of Terry Funk, as he had a throwback feel, and that excited him.
"I think this'll be uglier in all the ways that I love. [Moxley] reminds me a little bit of Terry Funk. He's got a little Roddy Piper to him. He's got that throwback feel, but with a modern take. That to me is really exciting. I'd love to just get in there and just have it be a gnarly fight. A hard hitting heavyweight match between two dudes who are over 230 pounds and are just gonna take each other's heads off. That sounds like a good night," Copeland said.
Copeland previously said that he wanted to have an old-school match with Moxley. Check out his comments here.
