Afa The Wild Samoan (Afa Anoa'i) Passes Away At The Age Of 81

Fightful is sad to report that Afa The Wild Samoan has passed away at the age of 81.

His son Samu confirmed his father's passing, writing on August 16th, "It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of my father Afa Anoai Sr. It was a peaceful transition and he was surrounded by loved ones. Please respect our privacy as we morn our father."

Samu Anoa'i first noted the news of Afa's condition on August 15.

As we embark on your final journey home, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering love and guidance you have bestowed upon us throughout our lives. We find solace in knowing that you will soon be reunited with the Lord Jesus, your parents, siblings, and friends who have gone before us. We have no doubt that you will establish a Wild Samoan training center in the sky, bringing us all together once again. We believe in the power of your love and legacy, and we will continue to honor it in all that we do.

Afa was best known for being one-half of The Wild Samoans alongside his brother Sika. The two joined WWE in 1979 and won the WWE Tag Team Titles on three occasions.

On January 12, Afa's family posted that he was taken to the hospital for pneumonia and mild heart attack upon arrival. He suffered a second small heart attack was sent for a heart catheterization.

Afa underwent two exploratory heart procedures in December.

Afa was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside Sika in 2007. He appeared at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020 alongside Sika as part of the Bloodline storyline and acknowledged Roman Reigns. Sika sadly passed away on June 25th.
