AJ Mendez (formerly known as AJ Lee in WWE) is set to be part of the writing team for an upcoming comic book based on the "GLOW" Netflix series.
IDW Publishing announced that Mendez and actress Aimee Garcia will co-write "GLOW vs. The Babyface," a four-part comic book series. The new GLOW comic series will launch in November. Mendez released the following statement talking about how excited she is to write her first comic book.
"As huge fans of the Netflix series, Aimee and I are thrilled and honored to get our hands on the ladies of GLOW. Aimee's experience in acting and my experience in pro-wrestling makes us a formidable tag team with a unique perspective to truly channel the voices of these hilarious heroines. Our mission as writing partners is to represent diverse, complex, and unbreakable female characters, which is why GLOW feels like the perfect fit."
The show is loosely based on the real-life formation of the all-female GLOW promotion (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling). The show, whose third season was recently released on Netflix, also features Awesome Kong as a regular cast member. Gisberto Guzzo recently wrote a review of the show's third season which can be read at this link.
Mendez, a three-time WWE Divas champion, has not wrestled in WWE since retiring in 2015. Since retiring from in-ring competition, Mendez released a memoir in 2017 which ended up being a New York Times Bestseller.
