In an interview with Mark O'Brien for WrestleMobs (via Bodyslam.net) ahead of RevPro Summer Sizzler, RevPro owner Andy Quilan discussed how the match came together.

“MJF asked for Michael Oku. He called me and said, ‘I would like to wrestle Michael Oku. This is when I’d like to wrestle him.’ We live for these moments… It’s my job to move heaven and earth to make these things happen," Quildan said.

Quildan also commented on setting the match-up, given the different schedules of the competitors and the companies involved. He noted that MJF was a busy man, so they had to work around some moving parts. He also highlighted the respect that MJF clearly had for Oku.

“MJF is a busy man, and with his commitments to AEW, we had to work around a lot of moving parts. The fact that MJF chose Oku as his opponent shows the respect he has for him, and that speaks volumes about the level of talent we have here at RevPro,” Quildan said.

Additionally, Quildan stated that the match between MJF and Oku gave RevPro a chance to showcase what they could do on a global stage. He also spoke highly of Oku's growth and noted that the MJF match represented Oku's hard work.

"Oku has been on an incredible journey with us, and to see him go up against someone like MJF, it’s a testament to his growth as a wrestler and to the faith we have in him," Quildan said.
