IYO SKY will defend the gold on the September 22 episode of WWE SmackDown.
On the September 8 episode, Asuka cost SKY and Bayley their match against Charlotte Flair and Shotzi. Asuka appeared at ringside, and the distraction proved to be costly for Damage CTRL. After the match, she got in the ring and confronted IYO SKY.

Later in the show, IYO SKY stated that she is ready for Asuka, and she challenged the former champion to a match. WWE then confirmed the bout for the September 22 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Sky won the WWE Women's Championship at WWE SummerSlam. There, Bianca Belair defeated Asuka, the reigning champion, and Chalrotte Flair to win the gold. After the bell, SKY cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Belair and pinned her to walk away with the title.
