Austin Aries names his next possible challengers.
This Sunday at 'Slammiversary XVI' Austin Aries will defend his IMPACT World Championship against the self-dubbed "Mr. IMPACT Wrestling" Moose. The confident Austin Aries is not too keen on the nickname that Moose has given himself as Aries stated that while Moose is busy figuring out what to call himself, he will be figuring out how he is going to secure the victory in their match and leave Toronto still the IMPACT World Champion.
"You can call yourself whatever you want, but if anyone could carry that name it would be the guy who is the champion." Aries said during an interview with Tony Quant of Mirror Sport. "All he is doing is proving that he is wasting time and energy coming up with cute names, while I am figuring out how I am going to win. I know where I am at with my 18 years experience against his five years. I don’t think I have been surprised by anything he has done at this point, which could be a good or bad thing." Aries said. "He is a football player, he is new to wrestling. He turned to DeAngelo Williams for training. I have friends in other industries but if I am training for a wrestling match, I would turn to the best wrestler to train, not a football player. When it comes down to Slammiversary, when you walk out all the game playing and prep goes out the window. Anything can happen and things are unpredictable. The best advice I can give to Moose is to go out there and be himself. Win, lose or draw this needs to come from his mind and his heart. Go fail or succeed on your own merits, be your own man."
If Aries does retain his championship then he already has a list of names who could possibly be contenders to his title. Aries name-dropped three men who have made big impacts in IMPACT--Eddie Edwards, Brian Cage, and former IMPACT World Champion Eli Drake who Aries took the title off of on his first night with IMPACT.
"There are a lot of guys if you look across the roster. Some former champions such as Eli Drake who will be focused on recapturing the title after signing a new deal. I am under no illusions that if he had been prepared, then maybe I wouldn’t have walked straight in and won the title. Guys like Eddie Edwards who has always been a great wrestler, but now you have to be concerned with this other side of him. Brian Cage, I mean how can’t you notice this guy and what he is doing with the X Division. Also with Option C available I am keeping my eyes on that. It goes to show just how deep the roster is, the IMPACT locker room is a great environment and we have a lot of energy. Everyone here wants to be successful." Aries stated.
Aries also discussed ROH and NJPW's joint-show at Madison Square Garden next Spring, along with more. To read the full interview with the champ, click here.
