While in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Beth Phoenix found a way to stand out.
After making her WWE main roster debut in 2006, Beth suffered a broken jaw during her first singles match against Victoria. After rehabbing, she was sent back to OVW and was forced to start all over. Looking for a way to recapture the company's attention, she knew it would demand something beyond her abilities in the ring.
On the latest edition of WWE Icons, Phoenix revealed where she came up with her Glamazon moniker, and why she started wearing a tiara. Here is what she said:
"I had to start over. I was looking for a way to repackage myself and catch everyone's attention again like I had the first time. They knew I could wrestle, I needed something more. I was watching Sex and the City and I heard the term 'Glamazon' used and was like, 'That would make a fabulous moniker. I got a phone call that said, 'You're going back on the road,' and it never stopped. I started creating the tiara look to stand out, to have one item that would brand me amongst the women. It was my Bret Hart sunglasses."
The Bret Hart connection is something that was important to Phoenix, as she also mentioned how it was his and Owen Hart's match at WrestleMania X that made her want to pursue wrestling as a career.
Beth would go on to have a Hall of Fame career, being inducted in 2017. Now, she works full-time as a commentator for NXT.
